This recipe is for those of you who don’t give a hoot about pressing your tofu. I know I’m not gonna waste my time with that so I just buy extra firm tofu, dap off excess moisture, and follow the method I am about to show you.

It will only take 15 minutes to make this tofu and it is worth every minute. You can cut the tofu however you like (cubes, slices, whatever) and it will still be delicious.

I prefer cutting my tofu into large slices to cook them. That way I can put it on a sandwich or easily cube the leftovers to put it in stir fry another day.

After slicing the tofu, it is time to prepare the teriyaki sauce. Luckily, its super simple – just whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil, ginger, and sesame seeds. Set this aside until the tofu is ready for it…

The syrup in the sauce makes it burn easily. To avoid this, simply add the sauce at the end after the tofu is slightly browned.

If you want to cook without oil, make sure you have a good non-stick pan. Otherwise, it will be difficult to flip the tofu in one piece.

Once both sides of the tofu are slightly browned, turn down the heat and add the sauce. It will sizzle and splatter a bit so be prepared!

The next part happens quickly!

Keep the tofu moving a by shaking the pan a bit. Cook one side for about 45 seconds or until half the sauce is gone, then flip and cook until the sauce is gone. Take it off the heat and let it sit for a minute for the sauce to get sticky.

Now the tofu is ready to eat! Or save for later…this is a great recipe for meal prep, if you’re into that.
